New video: Henry Maybury – ‘You’re Beautiful’

 My rating: 10/10

You’re Beautiful is a lovely new song by 22-year old musician Henry Maybury. The words are meaningful and gives out a positive message which resonates with everyone, touching upon various issues such as body image/appearance, sexuality, and insecurities. The message is clear, ‘beauty is subjective, everyone is beautiful in their own way and self-acceptance is a universal struggle’.

Its emotional new video, out today, features recognisable faces including Only Fools and Horses star John Challis who I actually met a few weeks ago at his show (see ‘Only Fools & Boycie’ review’) and Falklands War veteran Simon Weston OBE. The lead role is played by actor Simon Robinson, and he displays the conflicted emotions some people feel in terms of self-confidence and their appearance. The opening scene of the video I think is particularly powerful, as it begins with the recognised war hero looking directly into the camera at the Falklands War Memorial – drawing you into seeing what the video is about.

Raising awareness and helping others: Henry Maybury

Maybury, who has had to overcome some struggles in his own life (such as being diagnosed with arthritis at the age of 14 and sadly losing his older brother to alcohol addiction in 2013), channels his emotions into the music he writes and aims to raise awareness and help others. His song Lost Days reached over 1 million views on YouTube, and raised thousands of pounds for Alcohol Addiction and Recovery charities through the ‘Lost Days Charitable Trust’.

I had not heard of Henry Maybury before, but after being recommended by a friend to have a listen, I am now hooked. This is a very talented musician, and whose music is perfect for playing out in an open top car on a sunny day. I suggest you all take a listen and spread the music of Henry’s to friends and family. I promise you won’t regret it.
